Hello, I'm Dash - a software engineer living in San Francisco.
My passion for software engineering stems from my love of math, logic and problem-solving. As a homeschooled child, I chose to focus much of my time on learning programming and participating in math competitions. Computer science theory (aka math) is beautiful but I have come to find more fulfillment from using that theory to make the world a better place.
When I learned to make apps for iOS in 2009, I fell deeply in love with the operating system and development style. During college, I created an app or two of my own and also had the opportunity to build apps for Digifit and Rebos. I now work as a Software Engineer on the Health & Fitness team at Apple in Cupertino.
In spring of 2014, I received my B.S. in Computer Science from UCSB's College of Creative Studies. My education has always been self-directed and I firmly believe that all people should have access to free education tailored to their learning style. I have extensive experience tutoring math and computer science to students of all ages and aspire to become a classroom teacher. As a teacher, I am particularly interested in helping build confidence in students who are struggling with their coursework or experiencing imposter syndrome in their field.
In my hometown of Santa Barbara, I helped found Bonfire Collective, a group working to open a worker-run cafe and radical bookstore. I moved to San Francisco in Summer of 2014. I now help run Double Union, a feminist hacker/maker space in the city. I also started an anarchist discussion group that meets bi-weekly in San Francisco's Mission District. In my free time I like to run, bike, read, craft, garden & fight for a more just world.
